Heneage Lloyd and his Sister, Thomas Gainsborough (1750)

Heneage_Lloyd_and_His_Sister
The title is Heneage Lloyd and his sister. The painter is Thomas Gainsborough , he was born in 1727 in England. His father was a teacher. He was 13 years old when he impressed his father by his designer talents , so he could leave to London to study art in 1740. He painted a lot of landscapes. He returned to Sudbury in 1748 and concentrated on the painting of portraits. He died in 1788 .
He painted this painting in 1750 , it is exhibited in the FitzWilliam Museum, in Cambridge. It is an oil on canvas .
There are 2 characters. We know the woman in the painting must be the sister of the man next to her, Heneage Lloyd. Maybe they are in the garden of a castle because we can see a wall and a big lake. They are leaning on a rock. There are a lot of trees. They are wearing hats and they are holding each other's arms. In his other hand, Heneage Lloyd is holding a stick. We can notice that the 2 characters are wearing expensive clothes so they may be rich. The painter drew the landscape too small with the intention of showing the wealth and power of these people. In my opinion, they are in a royal garden because they come from an important family.
The painter emphasized their greatness because the trees, the lake and Nature look small around them.
